About Ballykealy

History & Architecture

  • Built with Love: The house was built between 1825 and 1835 for John James Lecky as a marriage gift after his proposal to Sarah Lucia Smith.

  • Renowned Architect: It was designed by Thomas A. Cobden, the English architect also responsible for Carlow Cathedral and Duckett's Grove.

  • Period Features: The interior is famous for its intricate Italian stucco plasterwork and ornate Carrara marble fireplaces.

  • Recent Revival: The Lecky family resided there until 1953. Since 2019, it has undergone extensive refurbishment to serve as an exclusive-use hotel and events estate.

Ceremony & Reception Spaces

The estate offers several distinct indoor and outdoor locations for your celebration:

  • The Barnyard: A beautifully restored space with exposed beams and stone walls, ideal for ceremonies or day-two BBQs for up to 275 guests.

  • The Grand Ballroom: A light-filled suite that hosts up to 275 people for the main wedding banquet.

  • Outdoor Options: You can exchange vows under the historic Tulip Tree, by the Fountain, or nestled in the Woodland under oak canopies.

  • Intimate Spaces: For smaller weddings, the Oak Room features original Tudor architecture and hand-carved panels.

Pricing & Guest Capacity

  • Wedding Packages: Typically range from €115 to €185 per guest, depending on the chosen package and time of year. Some seasonal 2026 rates are listed up to €195 for peak summer dates.

  • Minimum Numbers: Requirements generally fall between 80 and 130 guests, varying by the specific package and day of the week.

  • Capacity: Can accommodate up to 275 guests for a reception.
